The chlorine in the bleach will deteriorate the cotton fibers and your towel will have less durability.
  • Use homemade fabric softeners for your flour sack towels, including some parts of white vinegar and water mixed together. They will be healthy for your flour sack towels and will stay easy on your pocket as well.
  • Washing them carefully will make the kitchen towels soft as they have been packaged tightly and are wrinkled when bought. This method will also increase the absorbency in the flour sack towels and they will be easier to work with.
  • Choose a delicate cycle setting, usually a medium cycle for washing your towels in the washing machine. Use cold water to wash the towels. Use a mild detergent as very harsh chemicals will again weaken the fibers of the flour sack towels.
  • Drying the flour sack towels is always better when they are air dried. If that is not possible, tumble dry them for less shrinkage and safe the towel’s fibers. Drying them on separate hooks will make the process easier and faster. Hanging more than one towel on the same hook will prevent them from drying up quickly and might leave a musty smell in your kitchen towels.
  • Keep your kitchen towels germ free. It is very common for towels having germs and bacteria in their fibers. They are used the most around the house and if not taken proper care can be a source of cross contamination. Always wash your hands and then dry them using flour sack towels. If your hands are dirty, all the germs or food particles from your kitchen will stay on the towels.
  • Always discrete the towels for cooking and cleaning. Never use the same towel for cleaning around that was used for cooking in the kitchen. Wash and disinfect your flour sack towels after every use. Keep them away from surfaces where meat is getting prepared, the surface will have a lot of bacteria and we certainly wouldn’t want any bacteria transmission from the sack towels.
  • Make sure that the towels have properly dried up before you stack them up. Store the towels in a clean place to avoid germs, bacteria and air transmitted infections to come on the towels. Store them away from areas where food is getting prepared. Do not keep them in a hot place. Normal room temperature will be good enough to store your favorite flour sack towels.
  • You can customize your storage with their usage. Keep cleaning towels in one place and kitchen towels in some other place. Separately storing the towels will not mix them up and will be easy for you to handle and access them whenever there’s a need. Always keep some extra towels in storage to not run out of them in the time of need.
  • Do not use the same towel again and again. Purchase flour sack towels in bulk to refrain from using the same towel after every wash. Giving flour sack towels a break will also increase their life. Switch the towels after every five to six days and use the other stack. This way of switching the sack towels will make your towels stay fresh and new for a long time.
  • Do not wring the towels. Handle the towels with utmost care. Wringing the lint-free flour sack towels will loosen their loops and the efficiency of the towels to absorb the moisture will decrease. If you think that there is a tough stain that needs to be handled, you can always soak them in water mixed with vinegar for about thirty minutes before washing them by hand or in the washing machine.
  • Do not use very sharp utensils near the flour sack towels. Tearing up the towel will damage your sack towels and they will go to waste.
